About Us

All about Ashley...

I am a 27 year old teacher and super volunteer! I spend my days teaching reading to first through fifth graders. Most of my evenings are spent in meetings or rehearsals. I volunteer my time to an auditioned concert choir with whom I sing and serve as their vice president. I am on the Relay for Life planning committee and dedicate a lot of my time to raising money for cancer research. I also am the incoming president of the local Sigma Alpha Iota Alumnae Chapter, which is an international women's music fraternity that I have been involved in since 2006. When I have a chance, I love to participate in community theater, and I have acted, sung, and directed several times in the past ten years.

I have always been a busy person, and all my running has caused some pretty unhealthy eating habits. I wasn't brought up to eat healthy, I loved my meat and potatoes, my pasta, and my fast food. I was a pretty hefty child, and though I was active in high school, I never really got to a healthy weight. In college, my weight shot up around my junior year, and I have really struggled with it since.

In 2012 I had a string of pretty horrible events happen, and I decided to try and better myself through nutrition and exercise. It gave me something to work towards, and it made me feel better as I dealt with life. I started running and tracking my calories, and as I did that, I saw 40 pounds come off!

At my heaviest- 241 pounds

At my lightest! 201 pounds

Unfortunately, I saw the same unhealthy patterns return when I took my first teaching job in 2013. This job saw me with a 50+ minute commute each day, long hours, and tons of stress. Around the same time, I met Nick. He was another 50 minutes in the opposite direction, so I would be in the car up to 3 hours on certain days! The insane driving, the school lunches, and lack of sleep and activity took their toll on me and I gained about 25 pounds back.

This year I finally have a job I love, I am living near where I work, and I am able to work out and eat well regularly. I have toned up quite a bit with the workouts I am doing (Kosama) and I log everything I eat into MyFitnessPal. I have lost 7 pounds since I started my workout classes in June, and many inches. I still have a long road ahead of me!!

My starting point! This is me now, at 219 pounds.
